What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that straightens teeth and improves malocclusions (abnormal bites). A convenient alternative to braces, Invisalign clear aligners are transparent and removable. Invisalign allows you to complete orthodontic treatment with fewer limitations than braces, making it an ideal solution for teens and adults.

How does Invisalign work?

Similar to braces, Invisalign places gradual pressure on your teeth to shift them into a more aligned position. Conventional braces straighten your teeth with brackets connected to a single wire. This structure forces braces to place pressure on all your teeth at once, which can feel uncomfortable. 

Alternatively, Invisalign uses custom-made aligners to shift your teeth. Every two to three weeks you receive a new set of aligners that target different teeth. By targeting a few teeth at a time, Invisalign can provide a higher level of comfort than braces.

What can I expect from Invisalign?

Your dentist uses the iTero® digital scanning system to create fast, precise 3-D digital images of your teeth. They upload these scans into Invisalign’s proprietary software to plan your treatment. Next, they send your scans to Invisalign’s lab, which creates your aligners. You wear a new set of aligners every one to three weeks for at least 22 hours a day.

While Invisalign doesn’t require tightening appointments like braces, your dentist may recommend visiting for checkups every six weeks.
